Kinja'd!!!

And this new one's a beast! I'm upgrading from a Thinkpad T400 to a W500. I can finally play newer games now! It's got a real graphics card instead of one of those generic chipsets that laptops usually have, with, get this, eight times the video memory of my old one. I'm so excited I can hardly contain myself!

New Specs (W500):

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8GHz

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

4GB RAM

ATI Mobility FireGL V5700

512mb video Ram

1920 x 1200

Old Specs (T400):

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.27GHz

Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit

2GB RAM

Mobile Intel 4 Series Express Chipset

64mb video RAM

1280 x 800

15.4 inch 16:10, 1920x1200 .

That is pretty good. I'm a big fan of high resolution screens.

I like my work Thinkpad. Not much in the way of specs but quite durable when compared to gaming machines.

Shit son, imagine what you can do with a watercooler. I run a Corsair H70 and on my old build got a multiplier-locked 2.6GHz Pentium G6950 up to 4.4GHz.

It doesn't get hot 55c max. what it does i leak voltage and become unstable if i go any higher.

Probably. I haven't cracked this one open yet but all Thinkpads I've ever worked on have had two internal bays.

I have 4GB in my 4 year old laptop. It's really starting to get annoying. I can upgrade to 8GB but I'm lazy. So I just get annoyed instead of fixing the problem.

Being lazy is annoying...

You should have bought the Y500. An Actual graphics card.

With the H70 running an i5-655k at 4.0GHz I'm around 40-45c max. with the G6950 at 4.1GHz 24/7 I would max at 48c. At 4.4GHz it would only stay stable for about 30min at a time.

That's 1920 x 1200 from a laptop made in 2008 . Thinkpads have always been top-of-the-line, and also much more expensive because of it. The current model of the one I just bought starts at $1,330 . I bought this one refurbished for $300.

I don't have $1000 just laying around. A $300 refurbished machine is plenty enough for me.

wow! And I thought my computer was slow and old. It's a Asus F3Se with a decent 1440x900 screen and a C2D T7300, but half of the drivers don't function properly as Asus isn't that great with updates.

I don't buy anything else but Thinkpads. They're the toughest machines you can buy short of those military-grade tough-books.

My old computer could play Portal 2 with medium graphics settings, as well as Mass Effect 2 at no more than 10 FPS on low settings.
